February Love at the Food Pantry from AKA

You probably already know that we support our pantry clients with food, household items, and personal care supplies. But we also want to honor clients’ dignity and humanity by fulfilling their needs with respect and compassion. That’s why we were thrilled to host a huge group on MLK day spearheaded by the Phi Beta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

The group included members of Salem Baptist Church, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and their Guide Right program, and AKA’s Omega Omega Chapter. They shared their love with handmade cards to encourage and inspire our clients and families—and they cleaned, restocked, and added to our pantry! They also donated books from African American authors with lessons on MLK and civil rights and created more than 130 bags of toiletries.

If you’d like to share some love this month, we’re in need of household paper products and cleaning supplies like laundry and dish detergent and cleaning spray. We are also low on produce like apples, oranges, bananas, leafy greens, potatoes, and so forth. To see a list of the items we are always collecting, visit our website.

Thank you so much for your donations. You are the reason our pantry was able to provide food for nearly two thousand people in 2022! And if you’d like to help out, we are recruiting volunteers who can come on a bi-weekly basis to clean the pantry during off hours, like Fridays, Saturdays after 1 pm, or Sundays. Contact food@fpmontco.org for more information.

The pantry is located at 2801 Woodland Road, Roslyn, on the campus of Salem Baptist Church.
Donations of food and other items are accepted on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm. Please ensure that all items have labels, are within the expiration date, and are properly sealed.
