Family Promise

Family Promise Montco PA (formerly Inter-Faith Housing Alliance) is an affiliate of Family Promise. Family Promise’s mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response. Family Promise envisions a nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future together.

Family Promise began as the Interfaith Hospitality Network in 1986 when a Karen Olson, a New Jersey resident, connected with the local religious community to provide transportation and shelter for homeless families in her neighborhood. It is now a national movement with over 200 affiliates in 43 states that brings together more than 200,000 volunteers to help homeless families regain their housing, independence, and dignity, serving approximately 125,000 people each year. Family Promise affiliates mobilize their local communities to provide shelter, food, and supportive services to families experiencing homelessness in addition to serving as an advocate and educating the community about poverty and homelessness.

Family Promise founder Karen Olson receives a Points of Light award from President George and First Lady Barbara Bush in 1992.
