Family Promise has been partnering with the community to address homelessness and hunger since 1989. We move families from homelessness to independence with our housing programs, located in Ambler and Lansdale, and we provide food at our pantry in Abington. And we love volunteers!
There are lots of ways you can get involved. At our Food Pantry, volunteers sort and weigh donations, pack food bags, transport food, and assist clients. Volunteers assist with our emergency shelter by providing meals, transportation, and overnight assistance. Volunteers also help in our office, process in-kind donations, maintain our properties, and much, much more. There’s something for everyone!
Here’s what one of our volunteers says about her work at Family Promise:
“I first heard about Family Promise through my church, which serves as a host in the emergency shelter program. My heart goes out to families experiencing homelessness; it’s all too easy to be stuck in the circle of poverty and homelessness, and as a mother, I can only imagine how scary it must be to worry about your child’s next meal. I am also moved by the way the different faiths making up Family Promise work together for a common goal…. In volunteering here I have been amazed at the tireless and humble dedication of everyone involved. I have never seen anyone back away or decline to help in any way. On the contrary, what I hear most is, ‘What else can I do?’ Cooperation, kindness, humility—Family Promise is truly faith in action.”
