Celebrating Our Food Pantry Volunteers

April is National Volunteer Month, and to celebrate we’re shining a light on our absolutely awesome food pantry volunteers! We have great teams who manage the donations coming in, and the food going out. And there’s plenty of work that needs to be done! Volunteers meet our donors, sort and weigh donations, check expiration dates, shelve items, pack our food bags, greet and assist clients, pick up donations from grocery stores and bakeries, and keep the pantry clean.

What stands out for us is volunteers’ willingness to go above and beyond these tasks and jump in wherever they’re needed. They’re happy to pitch in when a large donation or delivery comes in—toting boxes is no problem! And they take the time to accommodate the specific needs of our clients. If clients have dietary restrictions or allergies, our volunteers make sure that their bags contains no allergens. If a client can’t carry heavy items, or has walked to the pantry, the team makes bags that are not cumbersome to carry.

And finally, we’re grateful that our volunteers have stayed with us through a lot of change in the past few years—including the pandemic and recent move to the new facility on Woodland Road. Thanks for supporting the community through it all!
