Thanksgiving thank-yous

The month of November is always busy at Inter-Faith and this year was no different. Thanks to so many generous donations from individuals, families, businesses, community groups, and religious congregations, our families celebrated a truly joyous Thanksgiving.

We challenged our donors to see how many Thanksgiving food bundles they could provide for our Food Cupboard in Roslyn to distribute, and the response was overwhelming. Parishioners at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Ambler (pictured above, bottom left) gathered 175 bundles! St. David Roman Catholic Church, the Woman’s Club of Suburban Philadelphia, and Signant Health all donated multiple bundles. The Rotary Club of Blue Bell provided many pounds of stuffing, potatoes, and other nonperishable goodies. State Rep. Ben Sanchez of Abington and his family spearheaded a turkey drive to benefit the Cupboard, and more turkeys came in from Old York Road Temple – Beth Am. Individual families, businesses, congregations, and organizations also chipped in with gift cards and food. With all of this support, the Cupboard was able to provide fixings for Thanksgiving dinner to more than 200 families in need!

We’re also very grateful to the Sutow and Kreston families (above, top) for once again organizing their annual Thanksgiving donation drive to benefit the families who live at Hope Gardens and Hope Forest. This year their group collected gift cards to a variety of retailers, enabling families to shop for holiday needs and other necessities, along with some homemade Thanksgiving treats. Keystone Fellowship Church gave each family a turkey, and the Ambler YMCA (above, bottom right) and The Giving Tree provided Thanksgiving meals.

“All of the families were so thankful,” commented Sue Zomberg, our Community Resource Manager. “[O]ur four newest families were amazed and overwhelmed to the point of tears when they they held [the donations] in their hands!”

“I’d like to genuinely thank you for blessing my family,” said one Hope Gardens mom. “I can’t express how much it means to me that you are willing to help us [for the holiday]….We will pass along a blessing to someone else when we can!”
