Family Promise

Did you know that Inter-Faith Housing Alliance has been an affiliate of Family Promise for more than 30 years?

Family Promise (then called the Interfaith Hospitality Network) was founded in 1986 in Union County, NJ, when a group of churches and synagogues banded together to address homelessness in their community. Our founder, Lei Barry, learned about this unique congregational shelter model, and Inter-Faith became the fourth affiliate of the new Network.

Thirty years later, Family Promise is a national movement, with more than 200 affiliates in 43 states. These afflilates partner with more than 200,000 volunteers and serve more than 125,000 people yearly, addressing family homelessness right in their own community. Family Promise is the leading national nonprofit addressing the issue of family homelessness and has served 1 million people since its founding.
