My tulips are popping up, though it doesn’t feel much like spring as I write this. We had that beautiful run of warm weather, just enough for all of us to start packing away our sweaters and pulling out our sandals, and then we got walloped with some near wintry conditions.

It’s just not fair.

Of course life is often like that. Just when you think things are looking up, just when you start to smile and relax, the deluge hits. The tax man calls. The job is lost. The child gets sick. It’s often these kinds of situations that lead families into homelessness: the small things that just keep coming, and often when we’re least prepared. It’s like swimming in a turbulent sea where the waves just keep coming, just keep battering your weary spirit.

When you have a family, however, there is no point at which you’re willing or able to quit. That’s what we see in our families at Inter-Faith- the tears and frustrations, yes, but also determination and the desire to do and be more. We see little seedlings of hope emerging from frosted ground; hope that just needs tending and care to become a beautiful and vibrant new life.

May your spring be filled with renewal and rebirth, but most of all, may you always be filled with hope.
