Growing in Hope Gardens

…a message from Executive Director Marsha Eichelberger

“Growing in Hope Gardens” can mean many things—including, this month, a thank you to some folks who have been literally “growing” for us for years.

The tireless duo of Jennie Nerenberg and Bruce Dorsey (pictured here with Mitch Diamond) help coordinate a huge garden at Congregation Beth Or—it’s called “Corner of the Land.” Produce from the garden is delivered to Hope Gardens several times a week, so our residents here get to enjoy fresh veggies all summer long.

The food donation definitely saves our families money—and that’s important—but what’s even more important is that the vegetables are easily accessible, and provided in such variety that everyone has a chance to sample “exotics” like zucchini and spaghetti squash, setting up a lifetime of healthy eating habits for the children here.

As I look at the bounty on our shelves and in our refrigerator, I am reminded of not only Jennie and Bruce but also all the other folks who enhance our families’ lives with their love and dedication.

Thank you!

Executive Director Marsha Eichelberger
