Hope Forest and Hope on Fifth

There is a clear disconnect between the needs of low-income families and the availability of affordable housing in Montgomery County. To address this disconnect, we created a Supportive Housing Program at an Ambler property, Hope Forest, which opened in 2016, and a Lansdale property, Hope on Fifth, which was purchased in 2021. Both locations contain two apartments that house families moving toward self-sufficiency.

Hope Forest got its start in 2015, when First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, a long-term partner, raised funds specifically for us to expand our housing options. Their $300,000 gift allowed us to buy Hope Forest. The renovation of Hope Forest was made possible with the help of an army of volunteers from churches, synagogues, community groups, and area businesses. More than 200 volunteers—ably directed by general contractor Todd Smith, who donated his time and expertise—provided a total of 1,577 hours of assistance to gut and modernize the two apartments and improve the yard.

The purchase of Hope on Fifth was made possible through the generosity of a longtime friend of Family Promise Montco.

During the time families reside at Hope Forest and Hope on Fifth, they continue to develop skills, resources, and relationships that will prevent future homelessness and foster economic independence.
