26 Aug Stronger Than Before
Recently, a graduate of our housing program shared her story with us. Her journey reflects the resilience of so many families who come to Family Promise seeking stability, support, and hope for a brighter future.
“I feel like I am stronger than when I got to Family Promise. As a single mom with two kids, I faced a lot, including job loss, financial stress, and the fear of not being able to provide stability for my family. I learned how to speak up for myself and my children, especially when it came to their education and mental wellness. With the support of my case manager, I gained confidence, learned to manage my money better, and even passed a job entry test. Moving out after two years was emotional, but I put a plan in place and now see it as the beginning of a new chapter.”
Her story comes at a time when more families in Montgomery County are struggling to find and maintain stable housing. Rising housing costs and a lack of affordable options continue to make it difficult for many working families to stay housed. Earlier this year, 477 people were identified as experiencing homelessness, while an estimated 85,000 county residents faced food insecurity. This experience is a powerful reminder that with the right support, families can overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
