24 Mar Creating Care Through Cakes and Kindness
Congratulations Sarah! A volunteer from Main Line Unitarian Church, she has been awarded the Gold Level Presidential Volunteer Service Award, a national honor recognizing exceptional commitment to community service.
We are thrilled to celebrate with Sarah, who earned this award through her youth‑led initiative supporting children’s mental health with baking and community care. Her work began at age 10, when she started baking birthday cakes for children in the Family Promise emergency shelter program. Since then, her project, Baking a Difference for Kids, has grown into a regional effort. Last year, she co‑launched the You Matter Birthday Bags initiative, distributing 325 birthday cake kits to food pantries across the region. “Something as simple as a birthday cake can make a child feel like they matter,” Sarah shared. Our CEO, Marsha, was honored to present her with this award in recognition of her compassion, creativity, and lasting impact on local children. Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your gifts with Family Promise.
