18 Feb A Celebration of Community Leadership and Service
Recently, the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners took time to shine a well‑deserved spotlight on Marsha Eichelberger, our Chief Executive Officer, recognizing her heartfelt service and community‑centered leadership. It was a powerful moment to uplift not only Marsha’s individual impact, but also the promise in action that Family Promise lives out every day.
Since joining Family Promise Montco in 2013, Marsha has focused on strengthening programs that meet people where they are, without judgment, and help families across Montgomery County overcome housing and food insecurity. Under her leadership, Family Promise has grown into a trusted, innovative, and compassionate partner for families navigating some of life’s most difficult moments.
During the recognition, State Representatives Gregory Scott and Ben Sanchez, former Montco Controller Karen Sanchez, the current Abington Township tax collector, and a representative from Congresswoman Madeleine Dean’s office joined the Commissioners. They expressed deep gratitude for Marsha’s unwavering commitment to serving local families and her tireless efforts to end homelessness and hunger throughout the county.
Commissioner Winder captured the spirit of Marsha’s work when she shared one of Marsha’s favorite sayings. “The work is about helping those who have too much on their mind and not enough food on their dinner plate. It is really that simple.” She went on to commend Marsha for her leadership, compassion, and dedication to public service, adding that Montgomery County is truly lucky to have her.
Commissioner Makhija highlighted the real‑world impact of Family Promise’s work, noting that the organization has housed families, helped them get back on their feet after experiencing homelessness, and fed those who are hungry, all with extraordinary community support. “Marsha, thank you for leading and inspiring so much of the work we are seeing across Montgomery County,” he shared.
Commissioner DiBello echoed those sentiments, emphasizing that leaders like Marsha help make county programs and services successful. He shared that she is loved and beloved and praised her amazing work and the difference it continues to make.
State Representative Ben Sanchez recognized Marsha’s innovation and leadership at the Family Promise Food Pantry located on the Salem Baptist Church campus, highlighting the commitment to offering families full‑choice access to fresh and healthy food, delivered with love and dedication. Along with Representative Greg Scott, he presented Marsha with a formal commendation from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, signed by the entire Montgomery County delegation, thanking her for her tireless service to the community. Marsha was also recognized by Senator Madeleine Dean for her outstanding contributions
Reflecting on the recognition she received, Marsha focused on the collective impact of the work. “I am most proud of the growth in our staff and the number of people we serve,” she shared. “Last year, we helped 120 people through our housing programs, more than 2,500 people accessed our food pantry, and we continued to expand through collaboration, innovation, and partnerships that strengthen how we serve families.” She also highlighted updates to facilities, expanded rental assistance, food lockers, and the recent partnership with Family Promise of the Main Line that has created a stronger Family Promise serving Montgomery County. Marsha reinforced why the work matters, noting that many of us come from a world of enough, while the families we serve do not, as they navigate systems shaped by policy and circumstance. “We owe it to the world to do what we can, to make change, and to see improvement.”
This recognition is a celebration of Marsha’s authenticity, leadership, and unwavering belief in the dignity of every family. It is also a reflection of what happens when promise is put into action through compassion, partnership, and a shared commitment to ensuring every family has a place to call home and food on the table.
