30 Jun Building Hope Together
For more than 40 years, Betty and Don have supported families experiencing homelessness through their volunteering with Family Promise. Their journey began in 1989, when Grace Baptist Church of Blue Bell became just the second congregation to join the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) after hearing a presentation from founder Lei Barry. Serving on the church’s mission board at the time, they helped lead the congregation into this meaningful ministry. Their commitment spanned decades and life stages, beginning with overnight hosting and growing into the leadership role as IHN coordinators, while Don also served on the IHN board and as a budget counselor.
Through their work, Betty and Don developed a deep understanding of homelessness and its many causes, emphasizing that it can happen to anyone due to job loss, illness, or financial strain. With Betty and Don now stepping away from their roles as IHN coordinators, their compassion provides a strong foundation, supported by the unwavering commitment of the Grace Baptist Church community. Thanks to their leadership and the many volunteers they inspired, Family Promise continues to thrive at Grace Baptist Church, offering families a welcoming community and a path toward a better future. We thank Betty and Don for their decades of dedication, commitment, and lasting impact.
