A Legacy of Service

For more than 20 years, Tom and his wife, Maxine, faithfully served with Family Promise, becoming beloved volunteers whose kindness touched so many lives. Tom was known as the kind gentleman who arrived on his designated nights with Applebee’s meals, always offering menus so families could choose their own dinners because he believed everyone deserved dignity and the simple joy of choice. His presence brought comfort, hope, and genuine connection during difficult times, leaving a lasting impact on both Jarrettown United Methodist Church and Family Promise. Tom recently passed away, and his legacy reflects a life of compassion, service, and deep faith. Maxine shared this same spirit of compassion, volunteering alongside Tom by providing transportation, support, and care. Together, they fostered more than 150 children and even welcomed a Family Promise graduate family into their home. Maxine also offered her warmth at Hope Gardens by babysitting for families during group discussions. Their lifelong dedication, generosity, and unwavering belief in people created a legacy of love and service that continues to inspire the community.
