25 Jul Turning a Promise Into Action
Stronger Together isn’t just a phrase—it’s a vision. It’s a belief that when we stand united as one Family Promise Montco, we can turn promise into action for the most vulnerable to build a better future.
For years, Family Promise has provided shelter, support, and hope to hundreds of families. But today, many of the safety net programs our families rely on are facing significant funding cuts.
What’s Happening?
Vital programs like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid are experiencing funding reductions. Food pantries, including ours, are seeing an increase in demand while resources like The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) are being scaled back. Cuts to federal nutrition programs also mean fewer fresh, local foods for schools, and food pantries.
The Impact of New Legislation
Recent changes at the federal level are expected to affect thousands of Pennsylvanians. According to state estimates 3,000 Pennsylvanians could lose Medicaid and 140,000 could lose food assistance. Local agencies like Family Promise will be asked to do more with less.
Why It Matter
These aren’t just numbers—they are our neighbors, our community. They are children who rely on school meals, parents balancing multiple jobs to stay afloat, and neighbors turning to local organizations for help during this crisis. These cuts will directly affect our ability to help families stay housed, fed, and healthy.
What You Can Do
