A Look Back on 2025

Dear *{{First Name}}* ,
This year brought both progress and profound challenges for families facing homelessness and hunger. Rising housing costs and limited affordable housing options made stability harder to achieve. Federal funding freezes and constraints created uncertainty for shelter programs. Families who rely on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) faced hardship after benefits were paused, and many were forced to make difficult choices between paying rent and buying groceries.

These challenges made access to basic necessities even more critical, from food assistance to rental support for families struggling to keep a roof over their heads. To meet these needs, Family Promise expanded our programs and services this year:

Through it all, one truth stood out: families are not numbers, they are our neighbors. Every meal shared and every stable night of shelter mattered more than ever.

As we reflect on 2025 and look ahead to the new year, we know our mission-driven work is urgent. Together, we can bring hope to families in our community. Your generosity ensures that every parent and child has the support they need to thrive. When you give or volunteer, you provide meals, shelter, and dignity to our neighbors who need it most.

Your gift and volunteering time will make an immediate impact. Every dollar and every hour matters.

Wishing you and your family peace, health, and happiness in the coming year.

Marsha Eichelberger
Chief Executive Officer

Holiday Giving Program Brings Joy

Our Holiday Giving Program lit up the holidays and brought joy to over 54 families, including more than 130 children in our housing programs and recent graduates, thanks to the generosity of over 50 donors! We are deeply grateful to these kind donors, some of whom have supported the program for many years, for making the holidays bright for our families.

We extend our warmest thanks to all who participated in making the holidays special for our families. Your support means the world to us, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do. Wishing you the happiest of holidays and thank you for being a part of ours.

Listening to Our Neighbors

We recently partnered with Philabundance to host a community listening session focused on food access. The conversation was honest and inspiring. Neighbors shared that disabilities, medical conditions, and rising costs are among their greatest challenges.

One neighbor said, “Access to food doesn’t just fill my stomach—it fills my soul. They make me feel like I matter.” Another reflected, “You can plan and save, but sometimes the bottom falls out from under you.” He added that what stood out most was being treated as a neighbor, not a client: “It’s genuine, and we feel that.”

These voices guide us as we strengthen our food pantry and advocate for empathy and support at every level. As one neighbor reminded us, “Without you guys doing the things you do, so many people would go hungry.” We will keep listening—because together, we can ensure no one feels invisible and everyone feels valued.

Children Share Joy Through Holiday Giving

Family Promise families once again participated in Peppermint Lane, a joyful holiday tradition where children had the chance to shop for gifts for the special adults in their lives, such as parents, grandparents, teachers, and godparents.  Our spaces became festive holiday shoppes filled with decorations and free gifts.

Children were greeted by staff who helped them pick the perfect presents. The excitement was contagious as kids browsed and imagined the smiles their gifts would bring. One little girl grinned as she chose a blue box, saying, “My mom loves blue!” Parents waited outside to keep the surprise secret, while wrapping supplies ensured every gift was beautifully finished.

Peppermint Lane was about more than presents. It gave children the joy of generosity and the pride of choosing something special for the people they love.

Honored as a Community Hero

What an exciting evening! On December 3, Family Promise joined fellow community heroes at Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies Charitable Holiday Reception, where Phillies Charities, Inc. celebrated organizations making a powerful impact in the region.

This year, Phillies Charities recognized 32 incredible nonprofits, including Family Promise, for their vital work providing resources to families in need. “In celebration of our Season of Giving, it is our honor to award over $1.2 million in grants to 35 charitable organizations who have done so much for our community,” said Phillies Charities, Inc. President Bonnie Clark.

Michael Cunningham, Philadelphia Phillies Director of Enterprise Tech and Family Promise board member, was joined by Family Promise CEO Marsha Eichelberger, and COO Debbie Badger. Together, they shared their gratitude for the recognition and the Phillies’ commitment to strengthening communities.

Marsha reflected, “We are honored to be recognized among so many organizations making a difference. This support helps us continue our mission to ensure families have the stability and care they deserve. We are proud to be part of the Phillies organization and grateful for the partnership that strengthens our work for families facing homelessness and hunger."

A Brighter Space for Families

The Day Center at Hope Gardens has been completely refreshed thanks to the incredible team from Lauro Painting. With brushes in hand and a commitment to quality, they transformed the space into a warm and welcoming environment where families can feel at home during challenging times.

Their hard work and attention to detail didn’t just refresh the walls. It created a sense of comfort and hope for everyone who walks through our doors. We are deeply grateful for their generosity and dedication, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful community partnership.

 Caring Makes an Impact

Your caring made a tremendous impact in November as our community’s generosity overflowed.

Saturday, November 15, PA Representative Ben Sanchez, his wife Karen Sanchez, Congresswoman Madeleine Dean, Abington Township Commissioner John Spiegelman, and friends joined us for the annual Turkey Drive at the Food Pantry, bringing kindness and generosity to our community. Thanks to their efforts and your support, 57 households went home with a turkey, all the fixings for a full holiday meal, and a $25 grocery gift card. Even as we distributed food, donations continued to pour in, one after another, which was incredible to witness. We are grateful to every donor, volunteer, and partner who helped make this day meaningful.

The generosity didn’t stop there. St. David’s Episcopal Church in Wayne provided 24 bags of Thanksgiving groceries and 18 $25 Giant gift cards. Jennifer Newhall, one of the Interfaith Hospitality Network coordinators helped to arrange. The thoughtful and consistent support of St. David's means so much to Family Promise.

Devon Preparatory School donated eight catered Thanksgiving meals, ensuring families could enjoy a warm, festive holiday. Ambler YMCA also provided Thanksgiving baskets filled with food for families, adding another layer of care and community spirit.

Because of you, families in our community experienced the joy and dignity of a holiday meal. Your kindness reminds us that together, we can make sure no one feels forgotten. Thank you for making November unforgettable.
