Day of Advocacy in Harrisburg |

*{{First Name}}* ,
On June 2, Family Promise joined the Bucks-Mont Collaborative and more than 100 nonprofit leaders for a Day of Advocacy in Harrisburg. Advocacy is at the heart of Family Promise’s commitment to families as we work to address the root causes of housing and food insecurity.
Our advocacy efforts are grounded in the lived experiences of the families we serve. Throughout the day, 13 staff members met with our state legislators and their teams to share what we are seeing in Montgomery County, highlighting how systems can sometimes fall short or create unintended barriers and how even a single eviction notice can have long-term consequences for a family. Stories shared with legislators also focused on Family Promise’s prevention, stabilization, and diversion strategies that help families stay in their homes, while underscoring the critical need for increased rental assistance funding and more affordable housing to support long-term housing stability. We also emphasized the growing need for food, as our pantry served 56 families in just one day seeking essential groceries and household items, reflecting the impact of rising costs and ongoing uncertainty about paying rent.
On the steps of the Capitol, Blessing, IHN Volunteer and Advocacy Coordinator at Family Promise, drew on her own experience of childhood homelessness in Montgomery County to make the case for urgent legislative action. “Every legislator I have spoken with today says they support affordable housing. I believe them,” shared Blessing. “But belief without action does not keep families housed. We need your votes and we need your dollars. Housing is a human right, and no one deserves to be stigmatized or criminalized for a failing system.”

Hope for Homes, a beloved tradition at Family Promise Main Line for over 30 years, unites the community to support families through vital fundraising for emergency shelter and self-sufficiency programs. Last year, with the joining of the Main Line and Montco organizations, we celebrated as one community dedicated to helping children and families facing homelessness and hunger. This year, we’re building on the Hope for Homes tradition to help even more families achieve and maintain self-sufficiency.

We Support Families Navigate the Summer |
For many families we serve in our emergency shelter and transitional housing programs, summer is not just a season of fun. It is a time when costs increase and routines disappear. With school out, families must provide more meals at home while also finding safe and affordable childcare. Summer camps can cost more than $125 per week per child, which quickly becomes out of reach. That is why planning ahead is so important. At Family Promise, we begin working with families as early as February, helping them explore camp options, connect with resources, and prepare for the months ahead. As Tiffany, a Case Manager, shares, “Our families are already balancing so much. Summer adds pressure with higher food costs and the need for childcare, which is why we start planning early. When families have time to explore resources and plan, it truly changes how they experience the summer months.”
Thanks to this proactive approach and the support of community partners, families can access opportunities that make summer more manageable. Recently, one family received assistance from a local community partner to cover camp fees, giving their child a chance to learn, grow, and enjoy the season. You can support families by organizing a collection drive and donating items through our Amazon Wish List including granola bars, fruit snacks, juice boxes, canned or microwavable meals, shelf-stable fruits, sunscreen, swim goggles and gift cards to Giant and Walmart. Donations of Weaver’s Way and Wawa gift cards will also help families who rely on walking for transportation.
Small contributions can make a big impact. |

For more than 40 years, Betty and Don have supported families experiencing homelessness through their volunteering with Family Promise. Their journey began in 1989, when Grace Baptist Church of Blue Bell became just the second congregation to join the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) after hearing a presentation from founder Lei Barry. Serving on the church’s mission board at the time, they helped lead the congregation into this meaningful ministry. Their commitment spanned decades and life stages, beginning with overnight hosting and growing into the leadership role as IHN coordinators, while Don also served on the IHN board and as a budget counselor.
Through their work, Betty and Don developed a deep understanding of homelessness and its many causes, emphasizing that it can happen to anyone due to job loss, illness, or financial strain. With Betty and Don now stepping away from their roles as IHN coordinators, their compassion provides a strong foundation, supported by the unwavering commitment of the Grace Baptist Church community. Thanks to their leadership and the many volunteers they inspired, Family Promise continues to thrive at Grace Baptist Church, offering families a welcoming community and a path toward a better future. We thank Betty and Don for their decades of dedication, commitment, and lasting impact.

On a bright day at Family Promise Hope Gardens, a group of Johnson & Johnson volunteers came together for their first visit, eager to make a meaningful impact. Working side by side, they embraced every task with enthusiasm and teamwork, tending to plants and flowers with care, improving the parking lot, and taking on cleaning projects that refreshed the space for families. Their collaboration and positive energy were evident in every detail, strengthening both the grounds and the sense of community. Family Promise is deeply grateful for their time, dedication, and willingness to lend a helping hand, making a lasting difference at Hope Gardens.
