How Budget Shifts are Reshaping Programs |
Friends, Yesterday, a long-time Family Promise friend wrote to ask how we are faring in today’s difficult political and economic climate. Their question was simple but heartfelt: “Have you experienced budget cuts or changes that affect your programs? How are families doing?”
It’s a question many of you may be wondering as well, and we’re grateful for the chance to share an update.
The past few months have brought unexpected changes to our funding landscape. Almost overnight, we lost roughly $75,000 in FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) funding—resources that have supported our network housing programs for over 15 years. At this point, we do not expect those dollars to return. In addition, the delay in passing a Pennsylvania state budget has meant significant reductions in the food allocations we receive for our pantry. On top of that, changes to federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits are creating confusion and uncertainty for many of the families we serve.
While these challenges are real, they are not the whole story. Our team is actively helping families navigate the shifting SNAP requirements, read more in the article below, so they can keep their benefits. We are adjusting our food pantry operations to stretch every resource. And, even as funding tightens, our shelter remains a lifeline for families who are facing longer stays because of limited affordable housing options.
Through it all, hope remains stronger than ever. Our local community continues to show up in extraordinary ways—yet the loss of FEMA funding and reductions in food support mean we cannot be certain that community generosity alone will cover every gap. Your steady support allows us to meet immediate needs today while we work hard to secure the resources families will need in the months ahead. To the friend who asked, and to all of you who care enough to wonder, thank you. Your concern reminds us that we are not alone. Together, we will continue to create a community where families not only survive these challenging times but find the stability and opportunity they deserve. With gratitude, |

A Truly Inspiring Celebration of Hope, Community, and Compassion |
|
|
On Tuesday, September 16, nearly 100 guests gathered at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer to celebrate Hope for Homes 2025. Thanks to the incredible support of our attendees, donors, board members, and staff, the event was a tremendous success. Together, our amazing community, from the Main Line and all over Montgomery County, came together to raise more than $126,000, essential funds to support our vital housing, meal, and graduate self-sufficiency programs—lifelines for families facing housing instability and food insecurity.
But this night was about more than dollars raised—it was about raising hope. Hope for families navigating the unimaginable: homelessness and hunger. Our mission remains bold and beautifully simple—to ensure every family has a safe place to sleep and enough food to eat. The evening featured a lively Fund-a-Need paddle raise, an exciting live auction, and a raffle that gave guests meaningful ways to support our work and engage with our mission. View the video below.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this night possible—whether you purchased a ticket, sponsored the event, donated an auction item, entered the raffle, or simply showed up with a heart full of compassion. Special thanks go to the Hope for Homes committee—Judy (chair), Lisa, Deidre, Lisa, and Anne—who spent months planning the event’s details.

VNA Offers Support to Navigate SNAP Benefit Changes |
|
|
On September 11 and 17, the food pantry welcomed Personal Navigators Wendy and Angela from the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA), who hosted an informational table at our Food Pantry to assist clients with questions about recent changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Wendy emphasized the importance of staying informed, noting that as of September 1, new requirements have taken effect for individuals seeking SNAP benefits.
When asked about the changes to SNAP and coming to the food pantry, Personal Navigator Wendy stated: "It's really important to be aware of these changes, so it's a great opportunity to come to the pantry and help any community members with questions and to clarify any confusion. We're trying to help people keep their benefits."
The VNA’s Personal Navigator Program is designed to help individuals reduce expenses and connect with vital resources like SNAP. Clients seeking guidance or counseling are encouraged to reach out directly. The brochure provided at the pantry includes a contact number: 1-800-591-8234 for registration and support. This initiative reflects a continued commitment to ensuring community members have access to the assistance they need. |

Kindness That Makes a Difference |
|
|
Sixteen years ago, Bob was asked to help Family Promise with maintenance work at Hope Gardens, and his response was unforgettable: “Sure, I’ll do the work—but only as a volunteer.” That single act of generosity sparked a journey of selfless service that continues to this day. With unwavering dedication, a cheerful spirit, and a wealth of expertise, Bob has contributed to countless projects while inspiring others to join him in giving back. He has also been an active member of Grace Baptist Church of Blue Bell, serving in the Interfaith Hospitality Network. His leadership and kindness have left an indelible mark on our community, and we are profoundly grateful for the example he sets and the many hours he has devoted. Thank you, Bob!
