A kitchen is more than a place to prepare meals. It is where families gather, children hang out, conversations happen, and daily routines come together. Over the past year, Family Promise has served 13 families, 45 individuals, through our emergency shelter program in Norristown. Through our partnership with Family Promise National, we were connected with IKEA, whose generous support made it possible to transform our day center kitchen into a space that fosters comfort, connection, and hope.

Families staying in shelter played an important role in the renovation project, helping pack up the kitchen before construction began and sharing ideas about how the space could best support everyday family life. Their input helped shape a kitchen designed not only for preparing meals, but also for gathering together, helping children with homework at the table, and creating a sense of comfort. Today, the shared kitchen at the day center has been transformed into a more functional and welcoming space where families can prepare meals, build connections, and rebuild daily routines as they work toward permanent housing. More than a physical upgrade, the renovation has created an environment that promotes stability, independence, and a true sense of home.

We are deeply grateful to the IKEA team for their generosity, creativity, and hands-on partnership in bringing this vision to life. Their commitment has transformed an essential space into one that reflects the dignity, comfort, and sense of home every family deserves.

Recently, a graduate of our housing program shared her story with us. Her journey reflects the resilience of so many families who come to Family Promise seeking stability, support, and hope for a brighter future.

"I feel like I am stronger than when I got to Family Promise. As a single mom with two kids, I faced a lot, including job loss, financial stress, and the fear of not being able to provide stability for my family. I learned how to speak up for myself and my children, especially when it came to their education and mental wellness. With the support of my case manager, I gained confidence, learned to manage my money better, and even passed a job entry test. Moving out after two years was emotional, but I put a plan in place and now see it as the beginning of a new chapter."

Her story comes at a time when more families in Montgomery County are struggling to find and maintain stable housing. Rising housing costs and a lack of affordable options continue to make it difficult for many working families to stay housed. Earlier this year, 477 people were identified as experiencing homelessness, while an estimated 85,000 county residents faced food insecurity. This experience is a powerful reminder that with the right support, families can overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

As summer winds down, anticipation builds for one of the most meaningful nights of the year—our annual Hope for Homes fundraiser taking place on Thursday, October 1, 6pm – 8pm, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Bryn Mawr.

This cherished event brings our community together to uplift families in crisis, raising essential funds for comprehensive housing programs and our Food Pantry that create self-sufficiency. On a warm summer day, Souderton Rotary Park was filled with families connecting, exploring resources, and enjoying time together during Family Fest, an annual event hosted by State Representative Steve Malagari and State Senator Maria Collett. Our team enjoyed being a part of the event, sharing information about Family Promise’s programs and connecting our neighbors with valuable resources available throughout the community.

This special evening will feature a four-course plated dinner, live music, luxury auction items, and the opportunity to come together in support of organizations that are making a difference for children and families in our community. In the summer of 1962, two years after leaving office, Dwight D. Eisenhower read The New York Times and learned he was ranked "Mediocre" in the first historians' survey of American presidents. This production, on Wednesday, August 26 at 8pm, features Eisenhower reflecting on his life, from his Kansas childhood and World War II leadership to the key decisions of his presidency, in a thoughtful and often humorous exploration of greatness, courage, and character.

Don't miss this remarkable show on the Act II Playhouse stage. Plus, a portion of ticket sales from tickets purchased will be donated to Family Promise.

Families at our Norristown day center who wanted to enjoy the outdoors once had to walk 10–15 minutes to Cherry Street Park to find a playground or picnic tables. Although the day center had a backyard, it wasn't a space families could fully enjoy. Thanks to the generosity of our long-time support congregation, Wayne Church, that's changed!

Wayne Church funded the backyard transformation and organized a Mission Day, bringing volunteers to assemble play equipment and outdoor furnishings while cleaning and revitalizing the space. The result is a colorful, welcoming backyard where families can share meals, children can play and enjoy fresh air just outside the day center.

"We are deeply grateful for our many years of partnership with Wayne Church and for their continued generosity and commitment to our mission," shared Amy, our Community Volunteer Coordinator." This new backyard gives families a safe, inviting place to relax and play while they work toward stable housing.

A warm welcome begins long before a family walks through the door of a host congregation in the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Recently, as Salford Mennonite Church prepared to host our families for the first evening of its two-week hosting rotation, volunteers were busy making sure everything was ready for a comfortable and caring stay. Through a strong partnership with Advent Lutheran Church, sisters K. and C. volunteered to prepare dinner and serve as evening hosts, helping create a welcoming environment for families. Thank you!

As our Food Pantry serves a growing and increasingly diverse community, we are seeing more visitors whose primary language is not English, particularly those who speak Ukrainian, Russian, and Spanish. To help ensure every family can access important information and services, we are seeking volunteer translators who can assist with translating forms and other commonly used pantry documents.

This is a flexible, remote volunteer opportunity that can fit into your schedule. Documents can be emailed directly to volunteers for translation, and our Food Pantry Coordinator, Jen, will provide coordination and support throughout the process. Whether you are bilingual, a student, teacher, retired educator, or someone with strong language skills, your talents can make a meaningful impact.

Food distribution occurs on Mondays from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm and Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm.

Donations of food and other items are accepted on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm. Please ensure that all items have labels, are within the expiration date, and are properly sealed.
